Patatato a traditional dish of Amorgos Island

Patatato,a portion of goat meat cooked in a pot with potatoes,is one of the traditional Amorgian dishes,served in restaurants and taverns all over the island.It’s massive consumption is done at Agia’s Paraskeui’s feast,at Amorgo’s Katw Meria.At feast’s eve more than two hundred portions of Patatato are served at believers gathered in the monastery.Impression is caused by the crowds huge anxiety for the consumption of this Agias Paraskeui’s holy food..is the need of this forlorn insular society,for religional blessing, that is causing this massive attendance?

INGREDIENTS

2 tsp tomato paste
1 tsp butter
1 onion
5 to 6 potatoes
2 garlic cloves
Salt
Pepper
Cinnamon
1 cup of olive oil
1 cup of white wine
spices
1 kg goat meat

INSTRUCTIONS

Slice the potatoes at rectancular square shape.In a big bowl of water clean and drain them.Mince the onion and garlic.

In a pot with heated olive oil,add the wine and then the onion and butter.Mix until the onion is brown.When this happens,add the meat in the pot and mix continuously.

Melt the tomato paste in a bowl with hot water.In the pot,add the potatoes and mix about 2 or 3 times.Add the melted tomato paste,the salt ,the pepper,¾ tsp cinnamon 1 tsp spicies and the minced garlic and mix them.Add water ‘till the food is covered.Wait for the food to boil at first place…and then leave it for about 3 hours to take the final boil.

  1. the recipe if you remove the lamb is no longer Patatato???hahaha
